hi5 Be Gone

Cleaning out last years clutter I came across my hi5 account and it seems most people have left to Facebook or something. So I cancelled my account. 1 less password to store. Anyone still on hi5 and loving it?

Another new year starts

Another year started with full of hopes and plans. I just went through the checklist of plans I had for year 2007 and found, wow, I have achieved almost all plans.

Now it is time to list out plans for the new year, 2008. I am thinking of launching a new thing; it has already been started and is being accelerated, which is one of my major plans. Hope future has stored good things for me.

NewYear

Again, just like the last year, my wish is peace for the country. Still the war is going on and on, at least, let's hope that war will be ended by this year. Wish you all my friends to very happy new year and May all hearts fill with love, peace and happiness!

2007 I Hardly Knew Ya

2007 started great with a new job and new expectations. But I should have known better. As long as you work for someone your at their mercy. The only way to get what you want is to work for yourself.

Don’t get me wrong this job is the best I had so far. I just have to wake up a bit early but beyond that I can work from home or office, no one looking over my shoulder as long as my tasks are done.

I hoped I could do some open source contributions in 2007. Sadly I couldn’t do much than posting some links here. Maybe 2008 will be different. Lets see.

Christmas kind of sucked this year. Cake helped a bit and so did this Blaupunkt THb 210A.

Blaupunkt THb 210A

Now I have the thump of a 3 wheeler in a neat package with boot space to spare. Thanks to Chathuranga for the idea.

I’m not a concrete new year resolutions kind of guy but I’m hoping I’ll have to kick it up a notch next year. Oh shit that’s tomorrow! Ok ok what ever happens you will hear it first here.

Be kind enough to leave kind comments on my many social profile pages. See you on the other side of 2008, go open source!!!

No color coding for Classic ASP in Visual Studio 2008

This seems to be a bummer. Color coding and intellisense for VBScript code in Classic ASP pages have been deprecated in VS 2008.

There is a workaround for making it work for files with the .vbs extension but no solution for .asp pages. Hopefully someone would come up with a hack to get it working again.

Until then Microsoft's answer is for us to use VS 2005 or Visual Web Developer 2005. But don't install VWD if you already have VS 2008 installed since VWD will take over all file associations leaving 2008 broken.

You can let Microsoft know how much this sucks by ranting here: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=290845

So today it see the end of another wonderful year in our lives. It’s hard to believe how fast time travels, it was like yesterday I remember the dawn of year 2007. However, this constantly reminds us how short is our lives and how limited the time we got in our lives [...]

What?s next for moBlog?

I have been thinking about what to do next with moBlog. Since the initial release and the subsequent bug fixed version, I have been thinking about where I wanted to take moBlog.

There have been a particular feature request from the those who gave it a try. It is to enable support for posting images to their blogs. Since most of the devices come equipped with a camera this makes perfect sense as it will be great to post those pictures that you capture from your phone. Actually it was something that I also thought of doing, even initially, but differed as I wanted to get the application out as soon as possible. So it is definitely at the top of planned features list.

I have a few other features that I wanted to incorporate as well. If you have used moBlog with Wordpress or Livespaces you would have noticed that moBlog currently does not support tags (or labels) for that. Tags are only supported for Blogger posts. This is because I could not figure out, at least with the client code I was using for MetaWebLog API, how to pass the Tags to the API. So this is something I want to incorporate on to a next version: option to tag wordpress/livespaces posts.

Currently moBlog is a .NET Compact Framework application. This deprives all those non Windows Mobile device users of the option to use a great mobile blogging application (do you notice me blowing my own horn here??). So I was thinking about hacking out a moBlog J2ME version as well! Now that is easier said than being done as I have not coded Java in a long long time, let alone tackle the intricacies of J2ME as well. But I think that will be a pretty good challenge for me to get on to a bit of Java coding. I am hoping that coding on Java has become as easy as it is to code on .NET. After all, Java lobby kept on saying that C# was a copy of Java, so I am hoping that those similarities will work in favor for me, coming from a C# background.

But what I actually do next will more or less depend on the user feedback that I get over the next couple of days. Either way, I think an enhanced version for WM with option to upload images will come out way before any J2ME  version sees the light of the day.  But if the demand for a J2ME version out weighs the enhancements for the WM version, I might consider dedicating my time on to that. What do you say?
